Our Mission

We are pioneers in addiction research and training unified around one goal: reduce the harms alcohol and other drugs cause to one in five Americans.

For more than a generation, we have devised, adapted, and tested therapies and interventions that help adolescents and adults stop or reduce their use of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, opioids, and other drugs.

The Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies is also home to the top postdoctoral addiction research training program in the nation. The program has produced over 200 leaders who, through roles in the public and private sectors, are improving the health of individuals and communities across the country.

Faculty, trainees, and staff here are deeply invested in each other’s success. This mindset promotes a supportive environment where teamwork thrives. Connecting with addiction scientists, epidemiologists, and interventionists has broadened my perspective and strengthened my work. At CAAS, these cross-disciplinary collaborations aren’t just encouraged — they’re the norm. And they consistently lead to more innovative and impactful science.
