Any Brown University faculty member based outside of the School of Public Health, either at Brown or in the hospitals, whose work focuses on substance use is eligible to become an affiliate member. Below are some of the benefits and expectations of becoming a CAAS affiliate.
Benefits:

Eligible for CAAS Research Excellence Program awards if collaborating with a CAAS core faculty member as MPI and that core faculty member is included as MPI on the resulting grant application

Eligible to be a secondary mentor of postdoctoral fellows

Listed on the CAAS website as affiliated faculty

News is shared on the CAAS website if the CAAS affiliation is referenced

Invited to all CAAS Rounds and related academic and research events

Research staff and students are eligible to present at CAAS Staff Research Day if presenting substance use-related work

Included on the CAAS-General and/or All-Faculty and Affiliates listservs
Expectations:

Affiliated faculty will be asked to report on their involvement with CAAS activities every three years. While active participation in any of these is not mandatory to retain affiliate status, it is expected that affiliates will maintain some level of ongoing engagement with CAAS. Examples of activities include:

Collaborating with CAAS faculty on publications or research projects

Co-mentoring fellows, SPH students or staff

Guest lecturing in any courses taught by CAAS faculty or other collaborating on our education and training activities

Attending and/or presenting at CAAS Rounds

Serving on CAAS committees

Where relevant and feasible, identify your CAAS affiliation in media coverage, publications, and/or substance-related presentations
