Dr. Augustine Kang recently received the American Society of Addiction Medicine's (ASAM) Abstract Award: Associated Professionals, presented at the ASAM 2021 Conference for, "Perspectives among patients and counselors with telecounseling in the COVID-19 Pandemic." He received the award for his work examining patient experiences with telehealth use during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His study explored the impact of the move from in-person to virtual platforms (as a result of the pandemic) on therapeutic relationships in the context of medication for opioid use disorders (MOUD) provision. Dr. Kang expressed that these results are useful as they help inform the widely proposed long-term adaptation of hybrid in-person/telehealth service provision.
